Asset Loader

The Asset Loader is a tool that can be used to load different types of assets such as characters, environments, or props within the project folder without having to search them in the hard drive (normally done using Create Reference or Import in Maya). This tool can be very useful for any project using Maya as the main software to help animators to load their assets quickly while preserving similar namespace structure and help with a consistent workflow.

Disclaimer:

I don't take full ownership of the design of this tool. I used a similar tool while working as an animator for a company and I wished to create my own version of the same tool for my personal projects. I'm responsible to recreate it completely using Python 3 and Qt5 without having a base code as a starting point.

Shot Creator

The Shot Creator allows the animator the create the folder structure for a new shot to maintain consistency in the pipeline of the project. It's a pretty useful tool for teams that require to keep consistency in the naming conventions for pipeline and organization purposes.

The tool asks the user to input the information of the sequence, shot, task, and the type of workflow that will be used. The workflow has three options: Maya, Unreal, and Hybrid. The Hybrid workflow is for projects that uses a combination of Maya (for animation) and Unreal (for rendering). It works as a template to choose which outputs will be created. Additionally, the animator can check the individual outputs checkboxes to create the folders for these file formats.

Shot Loader

The Shot Loader allows the animator to load a scene without the necessity to look for the file in the Windows Explorer or Finder (Mac). The animator would only need to choose which sequence, shot, and version is working on, and the tool will load the scene for him/her to start working on a new version. By default, the loaded version in the UI will be the last version available in the folder.

The tool will reset after loading one scene, just in case the animator just needs to do a quick fix in one scene and needs to load another one quickly. In my experience, this is very helpful if I need to adjust the same correction given by my supervisor in multiple scenes, and then I need to render them as fast as possible for a tight deadline.
